Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs. On the first weekend of May every year, Jane’s Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities around the world. Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours. And we'd like to take you on a walk of mindfulness and healing. Let's face it, Covid-19 has been stressful, has caused all kinds of unhealthy conflicts between friends, families, neighbours, and we're all just a bit emotionally spent. We certainly feel that way and those are the times when we focus most on helping each other replenish our inner 'cups'. Many people talk about self care and its importance, but we seldom make time for it for ourselves. This is your chance to spend some time, outdoors, in beautiful St Albert, and rejuvenate and restore a little of your sense of self.
Our 1 hour walk will be slow paced, focusing on mindfulness strategies for regaining a sense of equilibrium, emotional self regulation and healthy self soothing. We'll do it safely and invite all ages (and well behaved 4 legged critters, too) to come walk with us to get a bit of the healing power of nature and the benefits of mindfulness, too. If you need a bit of help with walking either with a cane or wheels, as long as you're able to navigate paved pathways, you're more than welcome to join us. If you're not sure, call us and ask. We'd love to accommodate as many people as we can.
There is no fee for a Jane's Walk, but please let us we know you're coming by emailing us (email@example.com) and we'll provide details about our starting location & a reminder email the day before. At the end of the walk, participants will get a little toolkit of mindfulness reminders of what you learned so you can take them with you whenever you feel a bit overwhelmed or find yourself overly stressed.
Bring a water bottle, dress appropriately for the weather, and we'll see you there!
